Terms of Service
Clear, fair terms that govern your use of MentorStar. Written in plain language because you shouldn't need a law degree to understand your rights.
Effective date: March 1, 2026
What's covered
1. Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using MentorStar's platform — including our website (mentorstar.com), mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service") — you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms").
If you are a parent or guardian creating an account for a child, you are agreeing to these Terms on behalf of yourself and your child. You represent that you have the legal authority to do so.
If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the Service. We want this relationship to be built on mutual understanding and trust.
2. Description of Service
MentorStar is an AI-powered, game-based learning platform designed for children aged 4–16. The Service includes:
- Personalized learning quests aligned with educational curricula
- Socratic AI mentors that guide children through learning experiences
- A Skills Passport that tracks competency development over time
- A parent dashboard for monitoring progress and managing accounts
- Teacher and school tools for classroom-based learning (where applicable)
The Service is designed for educational purposes. While we strive for accuracy and quality, MentorStar is a supplementary learning tool and should not be considered a substitute for formal education, professional tutoring, or specialized educational support.
3. Account Registration
To use MentorStar, a parent or legal guardian must create a parent account. From this account, you can create and manage child profiles.
- You must be at least 18 years old to create a parent account
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
- You must provide accurate and current information during registration
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account
- Each child profile must be set up by a parent or guardian — children cannot create their own accounts
- You agree to notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe are being used fraudulently.
4. Acceptable Use
We want MentorStar to be a safe, positive space for every child. When using the Service, you agree not to:
- Use the platform for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service
- Interfere with or disrupt the platform's infrastructure
- Upload or transmit harmful content, malware, or viruses
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the Service
- Use the Service in any way that could harm, exploit, or endanger children
- Misrepresent your identity or your relationship to a child
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the platform without permission
We take violations seriously — particularly any conduct that could affect child safety. We may take action including suspension, termination, and reporting to authorities where appropriate.
5. Intellectual Property
The MentorStar platform — including its software, content, design, graphics, AI models, quest narratives, and branding — is owned by MentorStar Technology LLC and protected by intellectual property laws. "MentorStar," our logo, and related marks are our trademarks.
Your use of the Service does not grant you ownership of any content or intellectual property. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial educational purposes.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our written permission.
6. Subscriptions & Payments
MentorStar offers subscription plans that provide access to the full platform. By subscribing, you agree to the following:
- Subscription fees are billed in advance on a recurring basis (monthly or annually, depending on your plan)
- All prices are displayed in your local currency where available, or in USD
- Payment is processed through secure, PCI DSS-compliant third-party processors
- You authorize us to charge your chosen payment method for recurring subscription fees
- Price changes will be communicated at least 30 days in advance and will apply at your next billing cycle
7. Free Trial
We may offer a free trial period so your family can experience MentorStar before committing to a subscription. During the trial:
- You will have access to the platform's core features at no cost
- No payment information is required to start a trial (unless otherwise stated at sign-up)
- At the end of the trial period, your account will revert to a limited free tier unless you choose to subscribe
- We will notify you before your trial ends
We will never charge you without clear notice and your affirmative consent.
8. Cancellation & Refunds
You can cancel your subscription at any time through your parent dashboard or by contacting us at [email protected].
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you'll retain access until then
- We do not offer prorated refunds for partial billing periods, except where required by applicable law
- If you cancel within 14 days of your first paid subscription, we will provide a full refund upon request
- Learning data and progress will be preserved for 90 days after cancellation, in case you decide to return
9. User Content
Some features of MentorStar may allow users (or children under parental supervision) to submit content, such as written responses, creative works, or feedback. Regarding user content:
- You (or your child) retain ownership of any original content created on the platform
- By submitting content, you grant MentorStar a limited license to use it for providing and improving the Service
- We will never publicly share a child's content without parental consent
- We may review user content for safety and compliance purposes
- We reserve the right to remove content that violates our community standards
10. Disclaimers
MentorStar is provided "as is" and "as available." While we work hard to deliver a reliable, high-quality learning experience, we cannot guarantee that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure at all times
- All content generated by AI will be perfectly accurate in every instance
- The platform will meet every individual educational need
- Results or learning outcomes are guaranteed
We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.
We do provide a commitment to continuous improvement — and we take feedback seriously.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, MentorStar and its officers, directors, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for:
- Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Loss of profits, data, or goodwill
- Any damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service
- Any unauthorized access to or alteration of your data
Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to MentorStar in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you. In such cases, our liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the applicable federal laws of the United Arab Emirates.
Any legal proceedings arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Abu Dhabi, UAE — unless a different jurisdiction is required by mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence.
13. Dispute Resolution
We believe most issues can be resolved through honest conversation. If you have a concern:
- Contact us first at [email protected] — we will make a good-faith effort to resolve the issue within 30 days
- If the matter cannot be resolved informally, either party may initiate mediation through a mutually agreed mediator
- If mediation is unsuccessful, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in Abu Dhabi in accordance with the rules of the Abu Dhabi Commercial Conciliation and Arbitration Centre (ADCCAC)
- Nothing in this section prevents you from filing a complaint with a relevant consumer protection authority in your jurisdiction
14. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our Service, legal requirements, or business practices. When we make changes:
- We will post the updated Terms on this page with a new effective date
- For material changes, we will notify registered parents by email at least 30 days before they take effect
- Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms
- If you disagree with updated Terms, you may cancel your account before the changes take effect
